Our Story
People are at the heart of Sage Psychiatry. The patients, the team and the people who pushed me to making Sage Psychiatry a reality. The year of 2024 would be a defining year for which came from having conversation with individuals who would provide the push I needed to start my practice.
The first conversation was with a psychiatrist I had worked for in Denver, CO, Jeanne Theobald. After completing my time at Denver Wellness Associates, Jeanne said “Katy you are an NP, why not just put your name on the door?”. After this first push, the second push came from a friend and the owner of Walls Counseling and Spring EOP in Colorado Springs, Will Walls. Will was one of the trainers who trained me in psychotherapy, and we had shared dreams of collaborating together one day. While having coffee with Will he said “Katy, you can do this, and you’ll do very well”. This was a confidence boost in knowing that I was surrounded by a strong support system. The third conversation was with my dear friend Ani Trejo. She owns a few art collective stores and does a phenomenal job uplifting the art community in Colorado Springs as I was one of those artist who sold jewelry in her stores. I shared the dream of Sage Psychiatry with her and she shared her own story of leaving a job to pursue a dream of building Eclectic Co. and how it was terrifying at first, then covid hit and she persevered in making her dream a reality . In true Ani fashion she uplifted me by not just sharing her story, but sharing how if her and her team did it then I can definitely do it.
These conversations were the start of all the big pushes I would need, and honestly, I needed a lot of BIG pushes. However, one thing I knew for sure was I am lucky to have so many inspiring business owners in my corner. The final push came from my husband, he witnessed the turmoil I experienced when a different opportunity failed to launch and he became a crucial part of helping me make Sage Psychiatry a reality and becoming a business owner. I appreciate his continued support as I continue to grow Sage Psychiatry.
Sage Psychiatry started with a dream that continues to grow with people at the heart of it. Part of those people are the patients, we get the honor to collaborate with. Just as much as my mentors, friends, and family provided a space for me to feel seen, heard, and supported, my hope for every single one of our patients in every interaction with us walks away feeling seen, heard, and understood as they move toward healing and balance.
